A 55 year old woman, Luo Fengju, was attacked by a black bear when she was collecting her field tools.
When she was about to return home with her buffalos, a black bear took a swipe at her face and knocked her to the ground. She tried to get away but the bear caught her right leg and Fengju belived that it was the end.
However, her five water buffalos, which were grazing nearby, suddenly dashed over and attacked the bear. They formed a circle around Fengju and one of them attacked the bear with its horns, forcing it to retreat.
The buffalos are now being treated as heroes and being given extra food.
